Purpose

Bakersfield Club Zion was formed in 2000 as an organization that would help high school and college students discover that there is a God-given purpose for their lives. We that that everyone deserves a chance to be successful in life. We give students our undivided attention and encourage them to further their education, participate in various programs and special training, and to work with peers to help them become productive and successful. In short, we help young people succeed!

To help students, we have developed a scholarship fund that targets students wanting to attend college but lacking the resources and support. Since 2000 we have distributed over $350,000 in scholarships. We also help students find other means of financial assistance, register and help determine suitable colleges. We become an additional voice and ear for students to voice their concerns and give them needed guidance and spiritual support as well. Mentoring is a one-to-one relationship between us and our students. We provide consistent support, guidance, and concrete help to someone who is in need of a positive role model irregardless of what part of the country they are studying.

Students involved in a mentoring relationship with Club Zion may be going through a difficult and/or challenging situation, a period of life in which they need extra support, or they may simply need to have another person present in their life. The goal is to build them up spiritually and help them gain the skills and confidence to be responsible for their own futures and decision making. For our graduates, either high school or college, we do our best to connect them with a community leader involved in that vocation and give our students the chance to talk about their careers and goals with someone who really knows. We also place these students in internships or jobs during school and after they graduate.

Statement of faith

Bakersfield Club Zion uses the following to express its Statement of Faith:

We believe the Bible to be the only inspired, infallible, and authoritative Word of God.

We believe that there is one God, eternally existent in three Persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.

We believe in the deity of Jesus Christ; in His virgin birth; in His sinless life; in His miracles; in His vicarious and atoning death through His shed blood; in His bodily resurrection; in His ascension to the right hand of the Father; and in His personal return in power and glory.

We believe that for the salvation of lost and sinful man, regeneration by the Holy Spirit is essential, and that repentance from sin and acceptance of Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior is the only way to come into a relationship with God.

We believe in the present ministry of the Holy Spirit, by whose indwelling the Christian is enabled to live a godly life. We further believe His power and gifts are available to believers today.

We believe in the resurrection of both the saved and the lost: they that are saved unto the resurrection of life, and they that are lost unto the resurrection of damnation.

We believe it is important to uphold the scriptural practices of the early church. Therefore, we hold to the practice of water baptism and the regular taking of communion. We do not believe that either of these practices is essential for salvation, but that they serve as a demonstration of our living faith in Christ.
