Purpose

Evangelising in the War Zones
Frontline Fellowship is a Bible-based African Mission that has pioneered missionary work into neglected mission fields and areas resistant to the Gospel. Since 1982, Frontline missionaries have travelled hundreds of thousands of kilometres by foot, by motorbikes, by dugout canoes, trucks and aircraft to boldly proclaim the Gospel of repentance and faith in Christ to soldiers, guerrillas, resistance fighters and civilians on all sides of many conflicts in Africa.

The Founder and Director of Frontline Fellowship, Dr. Peter Hammond, has personally carried out over 120 missions in the war zones and presented over 15,000 sermons, Bible studies and lectures in 36 countries. In the course of their missionary activities some Frontline missionaries have been ambushed, come under artillery bombardment and mortar fire, been stabbed, shot at, beaten by mobs, arrested and imprisoned. The Frontline mission base and high school in Sudan repeatedly came under aerial bombardment by the government of Sudan Air Force (10 times in 18 months). Over the years, 20 people involved in Frontline Fellowship outreaches have been imprisoned in Marxist or Muslim countries. Yet, by the grace of God, every one was freed in response to persistent prayer and pressure (Luke 18:1 - 5).

Assisting Persecuted Churches
Frontline Fellowship has been in the forefront of: Pioneering missionary work into war-ravaged Angola, Mozambique and Sudan; Researching and opening up neglected areas and restricted access areas;

Assisting persecuted Christians and prisoners with books, emergency relief aid (including tons of medicines, foods, clothes, seed, bicycles and tools), encouragement and Bible teaching; Developing a network of couriers and evangelists to distribute many tons of Bibles, in up to 100 languages, to suffering Christians; Providing in-depth leadership training for thousands of pastors, evangelists, chaplains, teachers, nurses and civil leaders in neglected areas; Speaking up for the persecuted, publishing the sufferings and testimonies of believers in print, on radio, T.V. and in hundreds of international meetings every year.

Working for Reformation and Revival
Frontline Fellowship is a leading force in leadership training and networking for Reformation.

Frontline Fellowship publishes an average of 80 items a year and has distributed millions of Gospel leaflets, booklets, books and Bibles throughout Africa.

Frontline Fellowship has distributed millions of Gospel leaflets, booklets, books and Bibles throughout Africa. Frontline Fellowship conducts an average of 30 seminars, conferences or workshops each year. Through literature and leadership training, Frontline Fellowship is educating and enlisting tens of thousands of Christians to "disciple the nations...teaching obedience." Just in Sudan, since 1995, Frontline Fellowship trained thousands of pastors, chaplains, medics and teachers. We provided thousands of Christian textbooks to over 100 schools in Sudan. FF has delivered and distributed over 500,000 Bibles and Christian books in 24 languages throughout 14 regions of Sudan.

In Zimbabwe, Frontline is distributing food, medicines and Scriptures into some of the most desperately needy areas and providing leadership, training thousands of pastors, chaplains, medics and teachers.

Mission statement

Frontline Fellowship exists to glorify God by working for the fulfilment of the Great Commission. We seek to serve suffering Christians, to speak up for the persecuted, exposing the persecutors, concentrating on neglected areas, Evangelising in restricted access areas, working for Biblical Reformation and praying for spiritual Revival throughout Africa. It is our fervent prayer that God may mercifully empower a Biblical Reformation and send spiritual Revival to transform Africa for Christ. The Great Commission is our supreme ambition. We pray and work to see lives changed, families strengthened, churches Revived and communities transformed by the Grace of God and through the power of His Word.

Statement of faith

We believe in the Bible as the inspired, inerrant and infallible Word of God. We accept the Bible as the supreme and final authority for faith and conduct. Matt 5:18, John 10:35, 2Timothy 3:16, Hebrews 1:1, 1 Peter 1:25, 2 Peter 1:20-21, Jude 3

We believe in one God, eternally existent in three persons: the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. Genesis 1:1, Matthew 28:18-20, John 1:1-3

We believe in the absolute deity and full humanity of our Lord Jesus Christ. We believe in His virgin birth, His sinless life, the authenticity of His miracles, His vicarious and atoning death, His bodily resurrection and His ascension to the right hand of the Father in Heaven. We believe in the personal and bodily return of our Lord Jesus Christ. John 14:6. Acts 2:22-24, Acts 4:12, 1Cor 15:3-6, Rev 19:11-16

We believe in the personality and deity of the Holy Spirit. We believe He gives life, He sanctifies, and He empowers and comforts all believers. Matt 28:18-20, John 16:5-15, 2 Cor 13:14

We believe that man's rebellion against God resulted in the fall and the spread of sin to every human being. All men are guilty of transgressing God's Holy Laws and are incapable of saving themselves. We believe that man is saved through repentance and faith in the finished work of Christ. Justification is by the grace of God alone. Rom 5:12, 18-19; 1 Tim 2:5-6; Eph 2:1-10

We believe that the Church is the Body of Christ, composed of all true believers. The present work of the Church is the worship of God, the perfecting of the saints, and the mission of "making disciples of all nations ... teaching them to obey everything" that the Lord has commanded. Matt 16:18; Matt 28:19: Col 1:18; 1 Peter 2:9

We believe in the bodily resurrection of both the saved and the lost, the one to everlasting life and the other to everlasting damnation. John 5:28-29; Heb 9:27; Rev 20:11-15

History

About Peter Hammond

Peter was born in Cape Town (in 1960) and brought up in Bulawayo (in what was then war-torn Rhodesia - now Zimbabwe). He was converted to Christ in 1977, worked in Scripture Union and Hospital Christian Fellowship, served in the South African Defence Force and studied at Baptist Theological College, (now Cape Town Baptist Seminary). He also earned a Doctorate in Missiology and has been awarded an Honorary Doctorate in Divinity. Peter is married to Lenora, whose missionary parents Rev. Bill and Harriett Bathman pioneered missionary work, mostly into Eastern Europe, for over 60 years. Peter and Lenora have been blessed with 4 children: Andrea, Daniela, Christopher and Calvin whom they have home schooled. They now have two grandchildren, Jeremy and Joshua.

For over 38 years, Dr. Peter Hammond has pioneered missionary outreaches, including into the war zones of Mozambique, Angola and Sudan. Often travelling by off road motorbike, Peter has travelled hundreds of thousands of kilometres to deliver Bibles to persecuted Christians in Africa and Eastern Europe. In the course of his missionary activities, Peter has been ambushed, come under aerial and artillery bombardments, been stabbed, shot at, beaten by mobs, arrested and imprisoned. On some missions he has flown far behind enemy lines to the Nuba Mountains in central Sudan with tons of Bibles, books and relief aid. He has walked throughout the war devastated Nuba Mountains showing the Jesus film in Arabic, proclaiming the Gospel, training pastors and evading enemy patrols.

Rev. Peter Hammond is the Founder and Director of Frontline Fellowship, the Founder and Chairman of Africa Christian Action, the Director of the Christian Action Network and Chairman of The Reformation Society. He is the author of Faith Under Fire In Sudan, Holocaust In Rwanda, In the Killing Fields of Mozambique, The Great Commission Manual, The Biblical Worldview Manual, Putting Feet To Your Faith, The Greatest Century of Missions, Biblical Principles For Africa, The Discipleship Handbook, Slavery, Terrorism and Islam - The Historical Roots and Contemporary Threat, The Greatest Century of Reformation, The Power of Prayer Handbook, Practical Discipleship, Answering Skeptics, Old Testament Survey, Sketches from South African History, Victorious Christians - Who Changed the World, The Ten Commandments -God's Perfect Law of Liberty, Chaplains Handbook, Security and Survival Handbook and the New Testament Survey. He is the Editor of both Frontline Fellowship News and the Christian Action magazine.

Peter has developed the Biblical Worldview Seminar and Great Commission Course to mobilise churches to comprehensively apply the Lordship of Christ to all areas of life.

Peter has a great love for history and for wildlife. He enjoys reading, particularly history and primary resource documents on the Reformation and Missions. He co-ordinates Vikings4Christ, Literature4Africa and Livingstone Missionary School.

Along with his family, Peter enjoys hiking and mountain climbing and he is involved in various animal welfare groups. He has been involved in rescuing and caring for a wide variety of wild and domestic animals including penguins and Rhinos. He co-ordinates Wonderful Wildlife, We Love God's Animals and The Bible and Animals.

For over 22 years, Peter hosted a weekly radio programme, Salt and Light, on Radio Tygerberg in Cape Town. Peter now hosts From the Frontline radio podcast. In his desire to apply the Lordship of Christ to all areas of life, Peter has been actively involved in numerous social issues. Since 1991 he has been vigorously promoting the Pro-Life cause in South Africa, initiating and mobilising the annual Life Chains, Sanctity Life Sunday and National Day of Repentance. He has mobilised numerous of marches to Parliament, including the Christian Voice marches in 1995 and 1996 which mobilised over 30,000 Christians in protest against the planned new secular state and its constitutional approval of abortion, pornography and other social evils. Peter has been called upon to present submissions to various sub-committees at Parliament.

He has co-authored, or contributed to, various books dealing with social issues in South Africa including: Fight For Life - A Pro-life Handbook for Southern Africa; Make a Difference - A Christian Action Handbook For Southern Africa; South Africa - Renaissance or Reformation?; Finding Freedom From The Pornography Plague, Porndemic - How the Pornography Plague Affects You and What You Can Do About It, The Pink Agenda - Sexual Revolution and the Ruin of the Family In South Africa, Character Assassins - Dealing with Ecclesiastical Tyrants and Terrorists and Reforming Our Families. These books and campaigns have led to numerous opportunities to present Biblical principles through newspaper articles and on national radio and television programmes.

Peter has a strong commitment to Christian education, having helped to promote Christian education and home schooling in South Africa for over 30 years. He and his wife Lenora home educated their four children for over ten years and help provide Christian school textbooks through their Christian Liberty Books ministry. Through his Textbooks For Teachers programme Peter has been providing thousands of Christian school textbooks to community Christian schools in Zambia and Sudan. Peter has also helped sponsor Bible colleges and Christian schools in Zambia and Sudan. He is involved in mobilising support for Christians suffering in Zimbabwe, and in providing tons of relief aid for the victims of communism in Zimbabwe.

Peter is regularly involved in personal and literature evangelism in the streets and in the townships. Since he was converted in 1977, Peter has maintained a regular practice of going in to some of the busiest, poorest and most neglected areas to conduct mass literature distribution, film evangelism and personal one-on-one evangelism and discipleship. In squatter camps, shanty towns, inner city ghettos, in bus and train stations, in prisons, military bases and hospitals, he has continued to engage in Evangelism and Discipleship.

He is a Missionary member of Livingstone Fellowship. He is also the Chairman of The Reformation Society, Henry Morton Stanley School of Christian Journalism and William Carey Bible Institute.
