History
pureHope was founded by Jerry Kirk (Jerry is Chairman of the Board) in 1983. Jerry has been a leader in the fight against child pornography and illegal obscenity since the organization's inception in 1983 at the National Consultation on Pornography in Cincinnati.
As co-chairman of the Religious Alliance Against Pornography (RAAP), a group Jerry helped found in 1986, Jerry leads religious leaders representing more than 100 million Americans in efforts to enforce laws against child pornography and illegal obscenity. RAAP is an alliance of leaders from nearly every major denomination and/or faith group in the country.
Jerry has served three different congregations and retired in 1988 after 21 years as senior pastor of the 2,200-member College Hill Presbyterian Church in Cincinnati. This enabled him to devote his full attention to the National Coalition and RAAP.
Program accomplishments
2002
National Coalition's Education and Awareness program produced the "Sex & Young America" curriculum, which effectively addresses the needs of parents and of senior high youth. The materials are now being used by more than 16 churches, numerous Parachurch ministries and by representatives of 16 different denominational groups.
Another vital aspect of National Coalition's Education and Awareness effort is FilterReview.com, which was launched in June 2000. Last year at this time, 1,000 people were using the website per month, and that has now grown to over 6,500 per month.
National Coalition's Model Cities of America program is working in 11 metropolitan markets of one million or more in population and has grown dramatically in smaller markets from 35 cities last year to 75 currently.
The Victim Assistance program is another growing element of National Coalition's work. Last year, their toll-free HelpLine received an average of 69 calls per month, which has more than doubled to almost 150 calls per month during 2002.
