Purpose

We desire to see thriving local churches around the world offering salvation, life change, and hope through biblically-based training and resources that meet the spiritual, moral, and social needs of their communities.

Mission statement

Serving the under-resourced church globally through the provision of Bibles, biblical resources and training to transform lives worldwide through God's Word.

Statement of faith

The Bible League adheres to the statement of faith established by the National Association of Evangelicals:

  1. We believe the Bible to be the inspired, the only infallible, authoritative Word of God.
  2. We believe that there is one God, eternally existent in three persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
  3. We believe in the deity of our Lord Jesus Christ, in His virgin birth, in His sinless life, in His miracles, in His vicarious and atoning death through His shed blood, in His bodily resurrection, in His ascension to the right hand of the Father, and in His personal return in power and glory.
  4. We believe that for the salvation of lost and sinful people, regeneration by the Holy Spirit is absolutely essential.
  5. We believe in the present ministry of the Holy Spirit by whose indwelling the Christian is enabled to live a godly life.
  6. We believe in the resurrection of both the saved and the lost; they that are saved unto the resurrection of life, and they that are lost unto the resurrection of damnation.
  7. We believe in the spiritual unity of believers in our Lord Jesus Christ.

Response from ministry

The Form 990 is an excellent source of financial data, but we want to remind you it is only financial data. The figures listed will probably not give you a real sense of what was accomplished with those finances. In other words, the Form 990 cannot tell you how EFFECTIVE a particular organization is at meeting its particular goal.

For more than 65 years, the Bible League has provided Scriptures and Bible study materials to bring people into fellowship with Christ and His Church. The organization equips local churches around the world to facilitate the spiritual growth of those seeking a relationship with Christ, and to help believers grow in faith through Bible studies. The Bible League also provides training to people in local churches worldwide who have a vision to reach their nations for Christ. Christians learn to lead Bible studies, to grow existing churches, and to establish new churches in areas where none exist.

The Bible League is effectivein meeting our goal of bringing people into fellowship with Christ and His church. Each year we release a summary of our ministry results. This summary answers questions that the Form 990 cannot such as:

  • How does the Bible League's ministry work?
  • What results has the Bible League accomplished?
  • How are these results measured?
Knowing the answers to those questions will reassure you that your partnership with the Bible League is worthwhile and shows good stewardship and wise investing. Our Ministry Results report will give you statistics that prove your investment is accomplishing great things. For example, this past year 18,596,533 Scriptures were provided by the Bible League. These Scriptures were used to accomplish these results:
  • 243,583 Bible study groups
  • 2,685,594 Bible study graduates
  • 4,047 churches established
  • 381,978 new church members

History

"In 1936 I became seriously ill and landed in a hospital in Chicago. An elder from my church came to visit me and prayed that my life might be spared and that I would be led into the service of Christ.

At the time, it seemed a strange prayer. Why should God be asked to give me health and strength for this purpose? What could I possibly do for Christ?

I came to the conclusion that this was a ridiculous prayer.

But as the night wore on toward morning, it became increasingly apparent that my elder's prayer could not be easily forgotten. That's when I made my commitment to God.

If God would restore my health, I would give all my strength in any avenue of service God would lead."

These are the words of our founder, William Chapman.

In 1938, Bill and Betty Chapman purchased 1,000 Bibles and went door-to-door in Walkerton, Indiana. They asked, 'Do you have a Bible?' And if the home didn't, 'Will you promise to read this Bible?'

Today, Bible League International offers the hope of God's Word, sharing Bibles, and Bible-based study and training tools with those in need of salvation. Beginning with the Chapmans' simple act of faith, Bible League International has faithfully provided God's Word around the world for more than 80 years.

That ridiculous prayer is being answered today.

Program accomplishments

Since 1938:

920,058,688 Bibles and biblical resources provided

4,222,769 trained to share God's Word

74,238 churches planted worldwide

Needs

The Bible League communicates its needs as follows:

Bible Access In most places where Bible League International serves, people have very limited access to the Scriptures because of persecution, poverty, or limited ability to read. In addition to providing other versions, bible League translates, publishes, and provides Scriptures in everyday language, making the truth of God available to all. Many Bible League Scripture materials are available in more than 30 languages, with additional translations underway.

Bible-based Literacy For those who cannot read, the Bible is a closed book. Bible-based literacy programs present the life-transforming Word of God to the less-educated, poor, and marginalized, helping them meet Jesus as they work toward a better future through learning to read.

Bible Learning Bible League provides materials and training to churches so they can help believers study the Scriptures and share the Gospel with the unreached. Through evangelism and discipleship programs like Project Philip, churches learn to plant the Word of God so that it can take root and change lives, families, and communities.

Building the Church As the Scriptures take root in the lives of believers, Bible League helps congregations learn how to establish new churches. Christian leaders called by God and sent out from the local church are equipped through hands-on training that teaches participants the five steps of church planning: evangelism, discipleship, membership, leadership, and worship.
