Mission statement

Research shows that nearly 1,500 pastors are exited from their church each month. PIR Ministries exists to provide hope to those exited pastors, and a proven process that helps them navigate times of vocational transition. PIR offers resources for helping exited pastors, developing Refuge churches, and Refuge networks in providing a caring and restorative environment.

Statement of faith

The Bible - We believe the Bible to be the inspired, the only infallible, authoritative Word of God.

Trinity - We believe that there is one God, eternally existent in three persons: Father, Son and Holy Ghost.

Holy Spirit - We believe in the present ministry of the Holy Spirit by whose indwelling the Christian is enabled to live a godly life.

Unity of Believers - We believe in the spiritual unity of believers in our Lord Jesus Christ.

Jesus Christ - We believe in the deity of our Lord Jesus Christ, in His virgin birth, in His sinless life, in His miracles, in His vicarious and atoning death through His shed blood, in His bodily resurrection, in His ascension to the right hand of the Father, and in His personal return in power and glory.

Salvation - We believe that for the salvation of lost and sinful people regeneration by the Holy Spirit is absolutely essential.

Resurrection of the Saints - We believe in the resurrection of both the saved and the lost, they that are saved unto the resurrection of life and they that are lost unto the resurrection of damnation.

Marriage - We believe that God wonderfully and immutably creates each person as male or female, and that these two distinct, complementary genders together reflect the image and nature of God. We believe that God created marriage to be exclusively the union of one man and one woman, and that intimate sexual activity is to occur within that union.

The above is based on the Statement of Faith of the National Association of Evangelicals and adopted by Pastor-in-Residence Inc. (Rev 7 2016)

History

PIR Ministries and the Pastor-in-Residence program was born out of the heart of the Dr. Charles Wickman. In 1986, serving as a senior pastor in California, Chuck put the program together and used it at his church to aid in returning three exited pastors to vocational ministry. The process became the subject of his doctoral thesis at Trinity Evangelical Divinity Seminary in Illinois. Out of his thesis the first draft of the General Guide, Especially for Pastors Guide, and the Affirmations Workbook were created. PIR broadened its reach when, at Chuck's retirement from the Evangelical Presbyterian Church in 1997, it became a national ministry. The program materials and process were further refined at that time with help from key individuals at Regent University, Virginia Beach, Virginia.

Program accomplishments

To God's glory, hundreds of pastoral families have experienced His grace and healing work through the work of local churches trained in the Pastor-in-Residence process.
