Summary

Ambassadors for Christ International (AFCI) was founded on the belief that Nationals in Ministry (Christian nationals living and working in their own countries) provide the best foundation for the church to thrive and grow.

Each national team has its own ministry focus, but all of us are committed to the vision of AFCI, which is "Teams of Nationals accelerating the spread of the Gospel through local churches worldwide."

Under one banner, we believe that the mission of the church is truly international and that leadership for world missions should be a cooperative effort involving input from many nations, not just one nation taking their ideas to the world.

We are therefore Christ's ambassadors, as though God were making his appeal through us. We implore you on Christ's behalf: Be reconciled to God. (2 Corinthians 5:20 - NIV)

Purpose

The purpose of AFCI is, "To glorify God by life and ministry as we seek to know Him and to make Him known to the nations." Out of this flow the vision, mission and core values of the ministry. The vision is the "what," the mission is the "how," and the core values "guide the process."

AFCI's vision is to establish a network of highly effective teams of nationals to accelerate the spread of the Gospel through local churches worldwide.

Mission statement

AFCI's mission is accomplished by focusing on revival in the church, evangelism through the church, and training for the church worldwide. This is accomplished primarily through preaching and teaching ministries.

Statement of faith

Ambassadors for Christ International uses the following to communicate its Statement of Faith:

  1. We believe in the Scripture of the Old and New Testaments, as verbally inspired by God, inerrant in the original writings, and that they are of supreme and final authority in faith and life.
  2. We believe in one God, eternally existing in three persons; Father, Son and Holy Spirit.
  3. We believe that Jesus Christ was begotten by the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary, and is true God and true man.
  4. We believe that man was created in the image of God; that he sinned, and thereby incurred not only physical death, but also spiritual death, which is separation from God; and that all human beings are born with a sinful nature, and in the case of those who reach moral responsibility, become sinners in thought, word and deed.
  5. We believe that the Lord Jesus Christ died for our sins, according to the Scriptures, as a representative and substitutionary sacrifice, and that all who believe in Him are justified on the ground of His shed blood.
  6. We believe in the resurrection of the crucified body of our Lord, in His ascension into Heaven, in His present life there for us as High Priest and Advocate.
  7. We believe in "that blessed hope," the personal imminent return of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, and the rapture of the church.
  8. We believe that all who receive by faith the Lord Jesus Christ are born again of the Holy Spirit and thereby become children of God.
  9. We believe in the bodily resurrection of the just and unjust, in the everlasting blessedness of the saved, and the everlasting punishment of the lost.

History

Ambassadors for Christ International (AFCI) was founded in 1948 when Australia's leading evangelist John Ridley, together with a godly building contractor, became deeply concerned about the need for biblical preaching to build up the Australian churches and penetrate Australia's secular society. The burden was for true revival in the churches and effective evangelism through the churches. Together they formed the Australian Institute of Evangelism to train young men and women biblical truths and practical evangelism.

As believers from nearby countries came to Australia to be trained, the vision spread to other parts of the world with an emphasis on building up local church leaders to more effectively reach their nations. With the international expansion and new teams being formed in other nations, the name was changed to Ambassadors for Christ International. Training local pastors in evangelism and church growth principles has been central to AFCI's mission through the years and remains so today. The methods have changed over time, but the mission has remained the same.
