Summary

Imagine facing torture and death for just five words-"I believe in Jesus Christ." This is a reality for more than 340 million Christians today. They often face physical violence towards themselves or loved ones-or lose homes and jobs because of their faith in Jesus.

Their burdens are not meant to be carried alone. We want to see persecuted Christians experience fellowship with the Body of Christ as their needs are met-and find renewed strength to follow Christ.

Help The Persecuted, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, an accredited member of the Evangelical Council for Financial Accountability, and an Excellence in Giving Certified Transparent Charity.

Mission statement

We are ministers of the Gospel who Rescue, Restore, and Rebuild the lives of persecuted believers.

Help The Persecuted provides direct assistance to persecuted Christians tailored to meet specific practical, physical needs while strengthening believers spiritually (some new in the faith) through discipleship and counseling and proclaiming the Gospel to those who do not know Christ.

Statement of faith

In accordance with Scriptural teaching and the constant moral teaching of the universal Church:

We believe in God the Father, Creator and Preserver of all things, who created humans in His own image, male and female, and gave them dominion over the earthly creation. (Genesis 1:1; 1 Chronicles 29:10; Jeremiah 10:10; Matthew 6:9; Acts 1:7; Romans 8:14-15)

We believe in the deity and humanity of God the Son, the Lord Jesus Christ, who being very God, was and is eternally begotten from the Father, and who also became man, was conceived by the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary. He was crucified dead and buried and then was raised from the dead and ascended to the Father. (Isaiah 7:14; Isaiah 53:1-12; Matt. 1:18-23; Matt. 28:1-6)

We believe in the deity and personhood of God the Holy Spirit, who convicts the individual sinner of sin, righteousness and judgement. He gives the ability to understand the Gospel leading to repentance and empowers followers of Jesus Christ today, serving as our Counselor and Encourager. (Romans 8:9-11; Romans 8:14-16; Romans 8:26-27; 1 Cor. 2:10-14)

We believe that God is the only true, sovereign God, eternally existing in three equal persons: Father, Son and Holy Spirit. (John 16:13-15; Acts 2:16-47; Hebrews 1:1-2; 2 Peter 1:19-21)

We believe that the Bible is the divinely inspired Word of God and is infallible, as originally given, in all matters of faith and conduct. (Deut. 4:1-2; Deut. 17:19; John 17:17; Romans 15:4)

We believe that God created people to have a personal relationship with Him marked by submission and worship, but that all fall short of this purpose. (John 11:25-27; Hebrews 9:14; Rev. 22:17; Col 1:21-22)

We believe that all choose to disobey God, and as such we are sinners deserving condemnation and eternal death. (Col. 3:9-11; Romans 5:12; Eph. 2:1-22; Romans 1:19-22)

We believe that sin is the transgression of God's law (1 John 3:4), as revealed by the Holy Spirit through His eternal Word. (Eph. 2:1-22; Romans 5:12; Romans 5:19; Romans 7:14-25)

We believe that the sacrificial death of the Lord Jesus Christ was necessary to atone for the sinfulness and guilt of each person who would otherwise be subject to God's judgment and punishment. (Matt. 16:27; Romans 1:19-32; Eph. 2:1-10; Acts 17:26-31)

We believe that we can only be saved by repenting of our sins and receiving God's grace by faith in the Lord Jesus Christ and His work on the cross. (Col. 1:21-22; Eph. 2:1-10; 1 Cor. 15:21-22; Romans 5:6)

We believe that those who trust in Christ have been born anew to an assurance of eternal salvation as a child of God and will reign with Him in eternity. (Matt. 16:27; Romans 1:19-32; Eph. 2:1-10; Acts 17:26-31)

We believe that every believer in Christ must not yield themselves to sinful passions and instead must strive to pursue righteousness (Rom. 6:5-11; II Tim. 2:22), "so as to walk in a manner worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing to Him, bearing fruit in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God" (Col. 1:10).

We believe that the family unit is foundational to society, and that God has ordained marriage as its centerpiece. Further, we believe that God has defined marriage as the uniting of one man and one woman in covenant commitment in a single, exclusive union, as delineated in scripture (Gen 2:18-25).

We believe in the equality and essential dignity of men, women and children of all races, ages, and classes. We recognize that all persons are made in the image of God. (Gen. 1:27; Rom. 2:11, 1 Cor. 12:27)

History

Imagine you've lost your job. You've been disowned by your family. You face imprisonment. Maybe you've even watched a loved one pay the ultimate price with his or her life.

All of this for following Jesus Christ.

This is the situation millions of our brothers and sisters find themselves in. Around the world Christians are met with hostility and animosity because of their love for Jesus. In 2011, the Help The Persecuted fund was established to respond to those in crisis because of their new faith in Christ. Since then, we've expanded Help The Persecuted to address the overwhelming needs of Christians and converts facing persecution from radical Islamic groups like ISIS.

Statistics released in 2017 showed that for the third year in a row, modern-day persecution of Christians worldwide has hit another record high. In 2018, in light of what we were seeing on the ground in places like Syria and Iraq, a small team stepped out in faith to form Help The Persecuted as a standalone ministry. Together we have decades of experience serving globally for the mission of Christ. Each day, whether in the office or out in the field, we aim to help the persecuted by meeting their physical and spiritual needs, which in turn leads them into a deeper relationship with Christ.

Our field teams are comprised of indigenous ministers of the Gospel. Some were raised in the Christian faith and others converted to Christianity. Having grown up in the Middle East and North Africa region (MENA), they already understand the cultures and the political and religious systems. They are deeply committed to serving the persecuted Church-at great risk to themselves and their own families.

Together we see that the time for this ministry is now. One of our partners who traveled overseas with our teams called it "a mass movement of the Holy Spirit"-a true revival in some of the most hostile regions on earth as God works amidst crisis and chaos for His glory. What a privilege it is to witness His life-changing, soul-saving work.

Scripture tells us that the world will hate us because it hates Jesus Christ. Persecution will continue, and all who desire to live a godly life in Christ will be persecuted. As we continue to help and support suffering Christians, we pray our efforts will empower the global Church to flourish not just in MENA, but also in the Western world as we share in their suffering and bear their burdens.

Thank you for partnering with us in this calling.

In Christ,

Joshua Youssef
